Technical Resources

Technical standards and manuals developed by SMACNA members have found world-wide acceptance by the construction community, including local and national government agencies. ANSI, the American National Standards Institute, has accredited SMACNA as a standards-setting organization.

Labor Relations

SMACNA’s Labor Relations Department works to ensure contractors have the best and most up-to-date information regarding issues affecting their unionized work force. We work with the SMACNA Labor Relations Committee in representing member and industry interests in the negotiation of the Standard Form of Union Agreement with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART).

Advocacy

As the first construction industry trade association with a full-time office on Capitol Hill, SMACNA’s legislative office plays an active role in shaping legislation affecting the sheet metal industry. The legislative staff works with Congressional committees drafting legislation and prepares SMACNA members to testify at Congressional hearings.

BIM

Building Information Modeling (BIM) is a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility. BIM is a shared knowledge resource for information about a facility forming a reliable basis for decisions during its life-cycle; defined as existing from earliest conception to demolition. SMACNA continues to develop educational and information resources and to provide members with access to industry developments in this emerging field.

Safety & Health

SMACNA’s Safety and Health Department develops safety programs, publications, services and videos to assist members in establishing and managing effective safety programs. SMACNA’s Safety and Health Department also communicates with OSHA and other federal agencies on issues affecting members and provides members with briefings on regulatory compliance issues.

Business Management

SMACNA develops publications, surveys and educational programs to keep SMACNA managers abreast of the best business practices that can be used for running a sheet metal and air conditioning contracting business.

Project Management

SMACNA’s project management resources and educational programs provide members with the necessary tools to help them manage projects efficiently, safely and on time.
